Web designer, illustrator, and hobbyist cartoonist.

This is my art journal documenting my progress as I attempt to develop my style and practice drawing different... uh... things.    Enjoy?

Another school project I did. I created some promotional pieces for a new B movie called “The Destroyinator”. I attempted to recreate the vintage posters of old, when terrible monster movies like this actually warranted movie posters, rather than being straight-to-Sci-Fi-channel features.

I later did a 3D render of him, with an updated design. “This time, he’s back for blood!”:

An image I drew for a school project. This was meant to be the inside cover of a cd case for the band “Crap in Bucket with Banjos”.

My wife. I drew this in Photoshop, using a photo ref. And no, I won’t post the ref. =P

Darth Vader in the style of pop. I played around within Photoshop to try to achieve the same look of Andy Warhol. Failing that, I took the photo of Vader and redrew it in the same color style I’d been trying to achieve with Photoshop filters / layering effects. I added the black borders later on when displaying in an old portfolio. I liked the effect they add to the image, so I kept them as part of the finished piece.

Hopefully you can recognize this as Clint Eastwood. I drew this from a black and white photo as part of a school project. I actually drew this same image four separate times. A quick sketch; a black and white ink drawing; a greyscale shaded version; and this color illustration. I’m pretty sure if I hadn’t drawn it all four times, the end result wouldn’t have been as nice. I fixed a lot of ‘near misses’ in his facial features with each version, and by the final piece I had a pretty good idea of how to achieve the ‘Clint’ look.

Ages ago, I drew a ‘Last Supper Lan Party’ featuring the gang at NeenerNeener.Net. For the launch of their new website, I redrew that illustration, this time inspired by the new podcast theme that the site now favors. It is currently in use on their staff page, but I also whipped up a desktop version as well:

Fullscreen (1920×1440)
Widescreen (1920×1200)

Another oldie. I was playing around with Photoshop, and a tutorial I ran across in some magazine that showed how to do the space background effect in this style. I thought it would be fun to do a desktop of my alien characters from my Chipmunk Bay comic joyriding in space.

Thus…

This is pretty old, but I needed something to kick this site off. Also to test functionality. Kwip needed a logo and an image for a t-shirt for last year’s walk. Here’s what I whipped up for him. Someday I’ll get him a new webdesign to go with the logo.

Here’s a closeup of the woman:
